In the broadening data center cost-saving and energy efficiency discussion, data center physical infrastructure preventive maintenance (PM) is sometimes neglected as an important tool for controlling TCO and downtime. PM is performed specifically to prevent faults from occurring. IT and facilities managers can improve systems uptime through a better understanding of PM best practices.

Ponemon Institute surveyed 569 individuals in IT security who are familiar with credential stuffing and are responsible for the security of their companies’ Internet properties. The survey identified key stats about credential stuffing, including the costs organizations incur to prevent damage, and the financial consequences when attackers succeed. According to respondents, these attacks cause costly application downtime, loss of customers, and involvement of IT security that can result in a cost of millions of dollars. The survey highlights the challenges in identifying who is accessing their websites using stolen credentials, as well as the difficulty in preventing and remediating these attacks.

Can your business afford to lose $9,000 per minute? According to the Ponemon Institute $9,000 is the average cost of an unplanned outage. In some cases the costs are much higher. The catalogue of cloud outages over recent years is well publicized and reads like a “who’s who” of the technology industry. It seems no one is immune. But when it comes to delivering digital content, downtime isn’t the only concern. Today a poor user experience can be just as damaging as an outage. According to Limelight research, 78% of people will stop watching an online video after it buffers three times, and the majority of people will not wait more than 5 seconds for a website to load. Organizations looking to deliver great digital experiences for their customers often choose to deliver that content using Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). Using multiple CDNs to deliver these digital content experiences promises even greater levels of availability and performance. But it brings with it a host of questi

Data breaches have become a fact of life for organizations of all sizes, in every industry and in many parts of the globe. While many organizations anticipate that at some point a non-malicious or malicious data breach will occur, the focus of this study is to understand the steps organizations are taking—or not taking--to deal with the aftermath of a breach or what we call the Post Breach Boom. Sponsored by Solera Networks, The Post Breach Boom study was conducted by Ponemon Institute to understand the differences between non-malicious and malicious data breaches and what lessons are to be learned from the investigation and forensic activities organizations conduct following the loss or theft of sensitive and confidential information. The majority of respondents in this study believe it is critical that a thorough post-breach analysis and forensic investigation be conducted following either a non-malicious or malicious security breach.

The release of iOS 8 not only introduces a comprehensive list of features to enable greater enterprise mobility, it also highlights the pervasive need for an agile mobility strategy and EMM platform. According to a March 2014 study conducted by the Ponemon Institute, 50 percent of IT professionals in financial services say their company has no mobile strategy(1). Without a strategic approach to mobility and an EMM provider, organizations lack control over data security, end-user privacy, and mobile technologies that support corporate productivity. As iOS 8 becomes widely adopted, it will impact other mobility trends such as the continued migration away from Blackberry. Enterprises will need to move quickly to address these challenges, so updating the mobile strategy should be a top priority in every IT organization.

The Security Operations Center (SOC) is the first line of defense against cyber attacks. They are charged with defending the business against the many new and more virulent attacks that occur all day, every day. And the pressure on the SOC is increasing. Their work is more important, as the cost of data breaches are now substantial. The Ponemon Institute’s “2017 Cost of Data Breach Study” says the average cost of an incursion is $3.62 million. The study also says larger breaches are occurring, with the average breach impacting more than 24,000 records. And with new regulations such as the EU’s General Data Protection Requirement (GDPR) putting stiff financial penalties on breaches of personal data, the cost of a breach can have material impact on the financial results of the firm. This trend toward increasingly onerous statutory demands will continue, as the U.S. is now considering the Data Privacy Act, which will bring more scrutiny and accompanying penalties for breaches involving
